About Paylocity
All-in-one, modern HR and payroll solutions that make real-time smart recommendations to help you drive better business outcomes.
I liked the integration with my tax software. I only exported my payroll information, reviewed it, and that's it.
The dashboard is TOO confusing for some people-this is NOT technologically inept friendly at all.

User friendly HRIS
Comments: Paylocity has been amazing through and through. We have been able to do so many great engagement activities thanks to Community. Managers are able to submit journal entries on the go for quick responses and feedback.
Pros:
We love the mobile capability for our team. Most features are accessible from smartphones, which helps our technicians in the field.
Cons:
The benefits of EDI transfers were more of an issue that it's worth implementing. Rates changes and the open enrollment spreadsheet is cumbersome. It's our least favorite product.
Revealing the gems that make it indispensable for effective payroll management
Comments: Streamlined and adaptable. It is a solution designed for the diverse needs of today's workforce. Comes with seamless integration minimizing manual labour and maximizing efficiency.
Pros:
Unlocking the essential components of great HR and payroll practices starts with an intuitive and flexible software which has all the features for the task. Paylocity fits in well with efficient performance that aligns with our unique needs. It can easily manage complex calculations ensuring compliance with laws and deductions. Operations are carried out with accuracy ensuring both the employer and employees are happy with the results.
Cons:
It will make your life easier and better. Pleasure to comment that I have no drawbacks. I find everything helpful and Up to standards.
Persistent Issues/High Turn-Over
Comments: Their sales is excellent and they will sell you what they have while telling you they can make anything else work as they started as a "tech company." Be warned however, you never actually get to talk to a "tech person" if you have issues with their system and therefore, nothing ever changes. They also have a lot of turn-over and it appears that they lose their quality representatives to promotions and seemingly do not have incentive for those quality employees to stay in the representative positions. Those left to support the customer are typically very new and/or entirely unpleasant to work with. If you see exactly what they have during the sales pitch and it works for you, this company could work well for your payroll needs! I would highly discourage any employer from using this company if you have employees that work outside of typical daytime work hours. I do not have confidence that they are willing or able to fix some of the detrimental payroll issues that we are experiencing.
Pros:
There are a lot of options that you can decide to use with Paylocity and like other reviewers, we were really impressed with the report options and capabilities when we were interviewing payroll companies.
Cons:
We were definitely sold on a lot of options that we are necessary for us to run a smooth, effective and correct payroll but many of those have turned out not to be true. I'll describe out top three persistent, unresolved issues. For starters, we have employees the work overnight shifts and the way Paylocity time sheets are set up is that if you work an overnight, all of your hours fall on the day you clocked in. This is a huge issue at the end of the week when employees would get paid for overtime in that week if we didn't manually adjust their time sheets to split the shift at midnight. I'll state that again... we have to manually edit every time sheet to correctly prevent incorrect payment of overtime. It's extremely time consuming and often leads to more errors and Paylocity has failed to mitigate this issue at every chance. Secondly, some of our employees receive a shift differential if they work certain hours. Paylocity reportedly has a set up for this that "works at other companies" but in our experience, it is a serious disaster. Their code/rule/setup does not catch the correct hours for adding the differentials and does one of six things: 1. It does not add the differential at all 2. It adds the differential to some, but not all, of the correct hours 3. It adds the differential to hours that it does not apply to 4. It adds a double differential and on rare occasion a 1.5 differential 5. It adds random dollar amounts at the differential rate with no corresponding hours 6. It occasionally pays all of the hours correctly for one or two employees per payroll To sum this up, we have to review ever employee and manually adjust these calculations. I'll state that again... we have to manually edit every time sheet to correctly pay our employees. It's extremely time consuming and often leads to more errors. Paylocity has also failed to mitigate this issue at every chance. Lastly, we have been with Paylocity for almost exactly 2 years and are now working with our sixth company rep who can guarantees, like all the others, that they will solve this issue. There has been one attempt at resolving the issues that

easy to use
Comments: great expereance with Paylocity - can get multiple reports with ease
Pros:
It is so easy to use - Staff able to clock in and out on app without any issues or help
Cons:
sometimes there are too many reports with similar names that to get the right on you have to go through a lot but it is easy to run reports and if employee works in multiple departments must be vigilant to get in right department. Also the app does not have an employee sign in to correct department if they are in hallway - goes to wrong department
The best system switch we have made as a company to date!!
Pros:
Very user friendly software and multifunctional to use for so much more than just time keeping and payroll services. It has a multitude of HR functions that not only engage employees but keeps everything in one place, making it easier and more convenient for both management and employees.
Cons:
No direct contact info for assigned account managers.

Solid SHRM Platform, missing Customer Success Team
Pros:
As a company, we love the ease of use and features the platform has. If you want to build it out, it has so much capability.
Cons:
The one thing we were disappointed about with Paylocity was that during the sales pitch everything had already been structured, built out, and polished in their test version. We wish the platform was more polished out of the box, or their implementation team should have been a bit more willing to build a robust system for us.
Simplicity at its best
Comments: It’s been great their team is very helpful whenever there are any payroll or benefits concerns. They offer many integration options for benefits and everify to help streamline processes
Pros:
Simplicity of employeee portal and admin features Onboarding events and checklist Intern support from teams
Cons:
UI could use a general refresh to make it much more modern
Paylocity is a must have!
Comments: Paylocity has made our lives so much easier! Integrates well with other platforms, easy for employees to navigate and find what they need, and super simple to run payroll. Has saved us a ton of time and frustrations!
Pros:
Love how simple the dashboard for paylocity is, it has great data and is super easy for all of our employees to navigate!
Cons:
We love everything about paylocity, such an upgrade from our previous software!
An absolute disaster of a software
Comments: Gets the job done but Gusto is way, way better/more intuitive.
Pros:
- Pay breakdown visualization is very useful - Customer service is good - Feature rich, and i'm told the pricing is fairer than Gusto - Paperless
Cons:
- UI is terrible. Dated, and a pain to use. I used to look forward to opening gusto. I dread opening paylocity. - No export for company directory - No company holidays calendar - The time off request input form is extremely confusing. Setting up an approval chain is near impossible. - Navigating the interface is a pain, I shouldn't have to read a help article each time I want to figure out how to edit a small field. - Why do we need to enter the company ID each time we login?
Great and Straight Forward
Comments: Great experience. Used it for a short time and never had an issue with it. Everything ran smoothly. Clocking in and out was easy. Finding your pay stubs was a breeze. Great app
Pros:
It is a simple app. Very easy to use and does what you need it to do. Never really had any complaints with it to be honest.
Cons:
I can't really think of anything. Maybe just the fact that it is a lesser known app so it is not as widely used as others and therefore may have less attention shown towards updates and such.
To move to Paylocity or not?
Comments: The integration was a large undertaking; however, we did them step-by-step. The payroll has been huge. We've gotten back hours to our days along with the reassurance that some random thing didn't go wrong with payroll that was previously out of our control. The piece of mind that everything is working as it should is worth all the effort.
Pros:
The integration in the software with all of the different areas, i.e. benefits, recruiting, payroll, ACA, W2, timecards, HR all make it worth the effort to transition to this software. The company and software have delivered on all of the promises that were made when the software was pitched to us.
Cons:
There are only small, personal changes that I would make. They are small picky things that I would like but do not hinder the software in any way.

HR Manager's Best Friend
Comments: I like Paylocity a lot and as a company we are very satisfied with the software and currently wouldn't look to change HR & Payroll systems unless something significantly better or more cost effective came along. As long as Paylocity keep moving forward and making the userability experience their focus we will remain a customer.
Pros:
I use Paylocity everyday and find the software very user friendly. For our business size it is very cost effective for what you get.
Cons:
There are some minor features that have bugs that I have bought up over a year ago that have yet to be fixed. The PTO tracking feature is not very user friendly and causes a lot of confusion amongst employees and admins alike.
Alternatives Considered:
Robust system, not the most user friendly
Comments: We have 100s of contractors who are managed separately from our full- and part-time staff. Paylocity enabled us to handle the different demands of both groups.
Pros:
A very robust system. Keeps abreast of policy changes making it easy to consider options. Extremely function rich with many reporting options, sometimes to the point of fault in that it takes some training to become familiar with the system. Integration and customer services have both been excellent.
Cons:
The system is not the most user friendly, but it adds functionality in place of user experience. For example, adding a new 401k/403b program took multiple calls with customer service to be sure everything was set appropriately. Same for HSA enrollment. The full product requires more than a basic level of technical proficiency.

Easy to implement payroll software
Comments: Paylocity has simplified and streamlined our payroll process. After switching from another payroll provider, and paper and pen to record hours, it has been a seamless transition to Paylocity for our team.
Pros:
Paylocity is intuitive and simple to use. Prior to implementing Paylocity, our team members used paper to record all hours worked. The switch to recording hours in Paylocity was seamless amongst our team members.
Cons:
We didn't find any aspects of this software to be difficult to learn or use. If anything, I believe we could use more of Paylocity's features, such as applicant tracking and benefits management, as time progresses.
Alternatives Considered:
Paylocity has been a great tool for our company!
Comments: Our overall experience has been very positive. The implementation process went smoothly and felt like we had a good team at Paylocity helping us get started with the product. The system was able to meet our pretty sophisticated needs and has been a very good investment if you are looking to move into a more user-friendly product.
Pros:
Some of the best parts of this product is how everything is connected and works well together. There is no disjointed feeling as you move from one part of the software to the next. This makes life as an HR professional, payroll preparer, or general accountant a lot easier. We appreciate being able to place all of our HR processes and especially onboarding into Paylocity and eliminate a lot of busy work behind the scenes.
Cons:
We wish the workflow software was a little bit further along but we have been told it is a priority in development right now so that is good to hear.

Payroll Processing Platform with integrated human resources tools
Comments: Overall, my experience with Paylocity has been very beneficial. Each obstacle that our company has faced in terms of HR and payroll, Paylocity has been able to guide us through. Paylocity is a great platform for facilitating and administrating employment details.
Pros:
This software comprehensively ties together many aspects of a human resources department. This makes it easy for a small business owner who may not necessarily need to hire a individual dedicated human resources to facilitate the necessary components of providing wholesome employment. Paylocity has strong reporting and data processing in addition to robust customer support that effectively and efficiently help troubleshoot potential obstacles.
Cons:
It seems that some aspects of the software don't exactly tie together. For example, when entering an hourly employee group in HR and Payroll, I often forget to add them into employee groups in time and labor. Subsequently, the supervisor has no way of tracking the employee's timecard. Additionally managing benefits in the employee's payroll file versus the HR file. Although this may be because our company does not fully utilize the benefits package that Paylocity offers.
One central hub for all HR-related needs
Comments: Paylocity overcomes the problem of disjointed HR procedures by centralizing them under one roof. This increases efficiency and decreases ambiguity. Additionally, the mobile access capability allows us to operate from anywhere, greatly increasing our adaptability.
Pros:
The intuitive layout of Paylocity streamlines daily operations. Complex procedures like payroll and human resources administration are simplified. In addition, it provides me with in-depth reports that inform my judgment.
Cons:
It's not easy to adjust Paylocity so that it meets all of my company's requirements. Due to its generalizability, it doesn't always mesh with our processes.
Alternatives Considered:
Paylocity makes HR processes painless
Comments: The integration of their modules make it easy to track employee participation and completion. I love having a digital record of all HR processes - compensation, performance reviews, training, tax documents, etc. Less paper in the employee file. The information is readily available to associate's who are able to ask relevant questions to HR.
Pros:
I love the suite of integrated platforms. The work flow from Applicant Tracking to Hiring to Web Benefits. It all fits together and makes daily tasks so much easier.
Cons:
It was a challenge to get the COBRA file information flowing to the carriers from Web Benefits. It is difficult to make a change to submitted time off requests. The entire entry must be deleted instead of allowing for modifications.

Paylocity our trusted partner
Comments: Overall very positive. Implementation went very smoth
Pros:
Comprehensive HRIS system. We use for payroll, benefits, onboarding and time & attendance. Mobile app is good.
Cons:
I can't think of anything at the moment.
You can do SOOO much better
Comments: None. I spent SOO much time trying to fix issues on a regular basis. Complete waste of time.
Pros:
GPS tracking for mobile punchers. Nothing more
Cons:
Oh gosh...how much time do you have??? There are so many issues. I guess I'll try to hit the highlights. The City mandated paid sick time- it took them SIX MONTHS to get this programmed CORRECTLY. My ACA forms were completed incorrectly. I received notices from the IRS for two of my four companies that the forms needed to be redone and resubmitted. Paylocity never responded to my WEEKLY requests for updates on the status of the corrections. I ended up manually correcting and resubmitting myself. We made updates to our 401k plan. It took a month for them to get the matches calculated correctly and we didn't know until Q3 that when they did the set-up, they click a box to over-ride IRS regs (WHY is there even such a thing???) so I had employees that over contributed and over matched. When raising the issue with PL, the Rep said to just refund the excess (clearly he had no idea about 401k rules). On another occassion, last check of the year, my payroll person had to re-process a check for someone with 401k. When re-running the check she noticed the 401k contribution was missing (she didn't realize he hit the yearly max) so she contacted Paylocity. The Rep told her to CHANGE THE EMPLOYEE'S DOB!!!! so the system would allow a catch-up contribution and then change it back after she processed the check. HE WAS NOT ALLOWED A CATCH-UP. Needless to say, the employee received a distribution the next year for the excess contribution. HORRIBLE response to issues.
Highly Recommend
Comments: Overall, I've been really really with Paylocity. I think they've done a really fantastic job updating the system for COVID related issues such as FFCRA, ERC, etc. For that, I am very very very thankful.
Pros:
The customer service is really great. I am able to call my dedicated service person any day of the week and they know me and my needs. If my dedicated service person is ever unavailable, then the other reps i contact are very helpful as well.... you don't see this with every HRIS system. They also seem to care about our requests for system improvements which I think is critical. I find this system fairly easy to use given my experience with other systems. The reporting is good for the most part although some custom reports cost extra which is not cool. I have really enjoyed the in-person conference offered to clients especially since they let clients meet one-on-one with the actual product developers and ask questions and make suggestions for needed upgrades. Upgrades come on a regular basis and are available to users immediately without changing "products" which is fantastic compared to some other vendors.
Cons:
The modules i am not using like applicant tracking, recruitment, onboarding, benefits management, etc. aren't really built out enough to make them worth the high price. I still have to use other software for all of those services because i've found better vendors that do most of what i need and they aren't as expensive as the Paylocity add-on. It's too bad, because I'd really like to use one system for everything. Upper management is not accessible which is disappointing. There is no way to add volunteers and independent contractors into the HRISI system for free - this is usually available from HRIS systems.
Paylocity Is the Go To
Comments: My overall experience with Paylocity is very positive. My implementation went very smooth and the continued follow up made the process work very well. Since then, there have been no major issues or mishaps. The most important thing to me is paying employees promptly and accurately. While Paylocity cannot prevent human error, it does do all it can to advise, report and remind about items which could present issues . We are very happy with Paylocity and all it has to offer.
Pros:
Paylocity is user friendly and provides more than enough guidance in processing payroll and keeping employee information organized. In addition, all of the HR auditing and tracking is helpful so as to not have to track separately. The PEAK resources and on demand training courses are also very helpful when needing a quick "How-To". There is no doubt that we do not use Paylocity to is fullest extend, but the ability is there when needed.
Cons:
It is hard to give negative feedback about a product that does more than one can fully comprehend. The report writer can be tricky if you are not familiar with how to use it. When doing an Employee Search, I do not like how the information displays by sliding from right to left. I would prefer it display as it does when you go into the Employee HR File. I really like the new HR Actions module, however setting up the approval process has run into complications with roles which has limited my ability to really use it properly. Finally, it would seem there has been a good deal of change at Paylocity because I have been reassigned an Account Manager 3 times in the past 6 months. Thankfully, I have not needed to have a close relationship with my Account Manager as I did at my previous employer but would be nice to have someone familiar with me and my company.
We use the Payroll Management module primarily.
Comments: I have been pleased with Paylocity and the support.
Pros:
I like that I can always call and get help if I ever forget how to access a feature or perform a task. I've also been impressed with Paylocity's ability to stay on top of the legislative changes over the past year (mainly due to COVID-19).
Cons:
We've recently seen a demonstration of a competitor that would help my co-worker in HR. The competitor's software can track when licensing, etc. is going to expire and automatically send email or text reminders to the employee and follows up to make sure they complete the task. They also have a way for employees to acknowledge receipt of documents specific to them. Paylocity's system (as of the last time I checked) only allows you to make the documents available to all staff whether or not it applies to them.
Payroll Management
Comments: In general, we’ve had a good experience with this software. Paylocity has worked well to meet the payroll needs of our company. IT’s been easy to use and helps us to quickly and efficiently take care of the employee timekeeping and payroll each week. Paylocity manages all of the direct deposit, payroll deductions, payments to tax agencies, insurance companies and garnishments, et cetera, so that we don’t have to employ an in-house Payroll expert. Employees have an online profile that they can log into, where they can manage their information and can pull up their pay history. In a small company like ours, we appreciate the ability to oursource the heavy lifting of the payroll responsibilities. Paylocity has done a great job in this regard, and they are responsive when we need to give them a call for support.
Pros:
Once you get Paylocity set up, the interface to input employee information and employee time is pretty easy to use, and we have never had issue with any software “glitches”. Whenever there has been any error, it was because of garbage in, garbage out. Paylocity automates all the payroll processing, so as long as the correct data is input each week, the whole weekly payroll process is painless and mostly effortless. The software's reporting features are good, and offer plenty of standardized reports that fit our needs, so we're able to easily handle the payroll accounting with our small office staff.
Cons:
Paylocity's support is OK, but could be better. We have an account manager that handles our account, and you have to call or email your account manager. If I need an explanation, or support with an issue, leave a message and have to wait for her to get back to me. Often it takes a lot of back and forth to get the issue resolved, usually days, not hours.
A decent punch in/out application.
Comments: Payroll and viewing payroll documents have been made simpler through Paylocity.
Pros:
The punch in and out system is awesome. You can clock in from anywhere. As an employee that works from home half of the week, this is a huge boon for me. It is also easy to view and retrieve documents, like tax information at the end of the year, and paystubs are easy to find and accessible.
Cons:
As a smaller company, the hike in price to run payroll was a big con. They doubled their cost per payroll, and when we only have 5 to 7 staff that need paid per pay period for 10 months out of the year, this was a big issue for us. It is also very very difficult to recover passwords, both as the employee and the employer. Employees have no way of contacting customer service or doing a password recovery on their end, and from what I have gathered from my boss who complains about the system constantly, if an employee doesn't login within a certain timeframe from their last paycheck, it basically puts a hold on their account so they can't login when tax season rolls around unless they bring it to us, then we have to go through a whole song and dance to fix it for them. This is a pretty annoying hassle every year. But otherwise, the system has a user friendly interface and is very helpful for running payroll.
