It excels at providing a track of resources configuration and history; providing a central point of reference when you need to understand how something may have arrived in it's current state vs where it started. Once time is spent configuring everything correctly, it provides a reliable audit trail that is invaluable for both troubleshooting and governance. > > **Cons**: Config can often feel more like a compliance and audit tool as opposed to a simple, intuitive window into your environment for day to day use. As with all cloud services AWS provides, it has a very steep learning curve and requires a lot of time and effort to extract and leverage its value, which is not always immediately obvious otherwise. As is common in AWS, there always seems to be many moving components that are not always obvious to see interconnection, and thus requires an investment of time and energy before it becomes genuinely useful and informative. > > The overall experience translates to AWS config being powerful and useful, but not particularly user-friendly or approachable, especially without prior experience or additional support for navigation/configuring. if you are deeply embedded in the AWS ecosystem already then it likely would feel more intuitive and make a lot more sense, especially when seeking visibility over configuration changes, resource tracking and compliancy; but for smaller teams or less experienced administrators this can be quite an unforgiving and daunting hurdle to encounter.
